Why a Height Adjustable Desk?

A height adjustable desk should not be confused with a sit stand desk. A height adjustable desk is designed to be used with the person sitting down at the desk. The difference with these desks is the height of the work surface can be adjusted to suit the user. For example, a very tall user struggles to raise their chair higher enough and get their knees under the desk - the result is they sit hunched over the desk with terrible posture. The reverse is true for a shorter person, who finds the height of the desktop uncomfortable for the opposite reasons. The solution is to raise or lower the desktop so it suits you and your seated position.

What mechanisms are available?

Height adjustability is available in a variety of different formats and mechanisms. The standard method is to use a small turnable lever that gentle raises or lowers the desk into position. This is ideal if the desk is rarely changed and the same person sits at it each day. The second method uses a gas lift, essentially the same as the type you find on standard office chair. This allows the desk to be raised and lowered quickly with ease. Finally, there are electronic mechanisms. These allow the desks to be raised and lowered at a touch of a button. The more advanced of these have programmable memories, so you can store different heights for different users allowing greater flexibility.
